Get ready for a post full of the most perfectly Pinterest-y pictures I could manage! Ladies and Gentlemen…I present to you…the greatest rock and roll-inspired music room in the history of cheap DIY makeovers (if only because the competition is pretty minimal)…THE BOOM BOOM ROOM!!!
The end is near! Can you feel it?
I’ve moved all of Chris’s
junk equipment back into the music room, and I’m running low on rock music references. Which can only mean one thing: The Boom Boom Room is nearly complete.
Once upon a time (last February), I made a totally rad desk.
And the desk turned out so totally rad, that I made some totally rad shelves to go with it.
I had made that desk and shelves because, 11 months ago, I wanted to get rid of an old table, and Chris wouldn’t let me because he wanted a place to sit and a surface to write on in his music room. And I feared that if I let him use that table in his music room, his tornado-alley style of organizing and decorating would eventually lead the music room to look like this:
And the obsessively compulsive, anally retentive, a-place-for-everything-and-everything-in-its-place control freak in me feared that this would end our marriage.Continue Reading
There are two things we need to address today. 1) This wall, which I left unpainted last time.
And 2) Today’s rock-and-roll inspiration: the 1973 album from progressive rock band Pink Floyd. Side note: my favorite song off the album? Money.
Okay. So. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you might have noticed that the tutorials I’ve written thus far are kind of tongue-in-cheek. Like my other “first tutorial” about how to put up drywall. Or the recent one about how to clean masonry, where I actually mentioned why I don’t like to write tutorials.
That’s all about to change here today, folks, because I’ve 1) learned a new skill — from an expert! 2) practiced it — unlike my usual “this-is-my-first-time-too” tutorials, and 3) actually plan on doing it again someday — unlike the multitude of tedious projects I’ve done, some of which I would never do again, and suggesting that you should try them makes me feel kinda bad.
Remember how amazing it is? Sometimes I forget because it’s stashed up in a room that hasn’t been built around it yet, so I don’t get to see it often.
Mmmm-hmmm. So now, here’s the part where I shock you: I refinished it this week.Continue Reading
What’s the Number 1 rule of decorating? More is better. Right?
Wait, what? That’s not the Number 1 rule of decorating?
Well. Too bad. Call me a rookie, I guess. But I decided that since the most awesome desk in the world turned out so — well, so awesome — that the only way to possibly make it better would be to make more. Why feature a single piece of furniture when you could feature a WHOLE WALL?
So I made a bunch of plywood-strip shelves to match the plywood-strip desk. Ta-daa!
