I have to tell you something important. Months and months and months ago, I showed you this picture:
I spent hours learning Photoshop just to make that picture, just to show Chris, just in an attempt to convince him that “look how tastefully and simply I could makeover your room, if you just let me make you this desk and shelves.” And it worked.
But. “Tasteful” and “simple” are not words I’d often choose to describe my ideas. And as you may have noticed, that Photoshopped image above does not exactly scream “ROCK AND ROLL!!!”
Now that I have the desk, and the popcorn ceiling is gone, and painting is imminent, it’s time to pull the old bait-and-switch.
Here’s what I actually have in mind:
Are you feeling me??
Black and gold and British flags and tufted velvet and shiny things everywhere — ROCK AND ROLL, BABY!!
Did you notice something else all these pictures have in common?
Not a single one of them has tasteful, simple, pale blue-gray walls. Because tasteful, simple, pale blue-gray walls are boring. And rock and roll is not boring.
I needed tasteful, simple, pale blue-gray walls in order to get Chris on board. Now that he’s on board, and the party bus has left the station…It’s a nice day to START AGAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!
That is only the first of what I hope will be many, many rock-n-roll references throughout this makeover, by the way. Get used to it.
So. I needed something bolder on the walls. I couldn’t go all black, because…I don’t know why. I just couldn’t. So I went with the next boldest color I could think of.
I painted most of the walls — and the ceiling — WHITE.
Thanks, Billy Idol, for the inspiration.
The doors and woodwork still need to be addressed, of course. I am SO looking forward to all that stripping. And you may have noticed that one wall — the most obvious one — has not yet been painted.
You didn’t actually think I could paint an entire room white, did you? How boring would that be??
We’ll talk about that wall next time.
