Hi folks! It’s been a crazy-busy week at work for me, so unfortunately I only have one little kitchen project to share with you. The good news is, it’s Friday! Which means the weekend is almost here, and I’ll devote every minute of it to projects that will keep you entertained throughout next week.
Because god knows, your entertainment is the only thing that really matters.
Until then, here’s a little morsel to tide you over: We “lowered” our header.
Although I love the look of a 9-foot-tall opening, all the other openings between the rooms of our house are 7 feet tall. So we wanted the new opening to match. Here’s where we started:
And after less than an hour, here’s our (not-very-dramatic) makeover:
You can kind of see, in the background of the pics (behind that piece of plywood leaning on our stove, and underneath the plastic curtain) the passage between the dining room and living room. That gives you an idea of the height we were trying to match. When all is said and done, the new opening will be trimmed out to match the other woodwork in the house.
That’s the part I’m really looking forward to. I’m more of a “finishes” type of person. This slow building-things-that-will-eventually-be-hidden is not as exciting as I’d like it to be. Where are my amazing transformations??
At least “building down the header” is one more thing I can cross off The List. By the end of the weekend, I hope to have all the framing done — leaving only electrical and HVAC before we can drywall.
Wish me luck!
